Today, First Focus Campaign for Children sent a letter to Senator Lindsey Graham and Representative Brian Babin, authors of the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 (S. 304/H.R.569) as it seeks to radically change the Constitution’s citizenship clause in the Fourteenth Amendment, reverse several Supreme Court decisions, overturn long-standing federal statutes, and gut centuries-old procedures and practices for determining citizenship in our country.
Excerpt from the letter:
We firmly believe the legislation is not only unconstitutional, but that it would prove to impose significant harm to babies, children, families, and the very fabric of our nation. The principle of birthright citizenship is enshrined in the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Upon the inclusion of the Citizenship Clause, the United States has operated under the premise that every baby has an equal right to belong and engage in the “pursuit of happiness.”
