Recently, a memo from the White House budget office surfaced, calling for a spending freeze on all federal loans, grants, and assistance. Fortunately, a federal judge temporarily stopped this freeze from going into effect and, while the White House rescinded the memo, it remains unclear if they will take new actions that may affect funding. That is why we need to stay vigilant and demand that Congress get assurance from the Administration that they will not freeze funding impacting children.

It would be hard to overstate the potential impact of this directive on America’s children. We’re talking about food assistance, help for children experiencing homelessness, child care facilities, school meal programs, and myriad other programs that keep children fed, safe, and in school. According to our calculations, these cuts could take roughly $329 billion from America’s children.

Your senators and representatives must hear from you — tell them to do everything in their power to prevent this illegal attack on America’s children.
