First Focus Campaign for Children welcomes the recognition of Children’s Week 2023 by the U.S. House of Representatives and the efforts of lawmakers throughout the week to put children and their needs at the heart of the national conversation.
First Focus on Children and its sister organization First Focus Campaign for Children launched the first Children’s Week in 2018, mobilizing lawmakers, advocates and members of the public to spend the week before Father’s Day putting the very specific needs and challenges of children at the top of the national agenda. In the five years since, a growing number of lawmakers and thought leaders have participated in the annual celebration and have pushed to formally recognize a national Children’s Week.
Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) submitted a resolution today acknowledging Children’s Week 2023 and supporting the celebration of an annual Children’s Week in the United States during the second week of June with events, ceremonies, and programs to increase awareness and attention to the importance of children’s well-being and the issues they face. The resolution also called on the President to issue a proclamation establishing an annual Children’s Week and urging public and private organizations, businesses, and individuals to cooperate on initiatives that help secure our children’s future.
