Today, First Focus Campaign for Children sent a letter to Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, author of the CARING for Social Determinants Act of 2023 (H.R.1066) to express our support for the bill.
Excerpt from the letter:
Myriad things outside of a child’s own body greatly influence their well-being. Known as social determinants of health (SDOH), these external factors play pivotal roles in children’s health outcomes. Things like their physical environment, socioeconomic status, exposure to violence at home, and many more affect a child’s childhood and adult health outcomes. Multiple studies suggest that SDOH account for up to 50% of variations in children’s health and can contribute to maladies like obesity, asthma, injuries, and malnutrition. Children who live in poverty are far more likely to be exposed to a number of these negative factors that impact their health throughout their life.
