We request your support and sign-on to an important letter encouraging Congress to enact a proposal from the President’s fiscal year (FY) 2016 budget. A similar letter was sent last year when the proposal first appeared in the Administration’s FY 2015 budget.
The FY 2016 budget outlines an important initiative to build the capacity for child welfare and Medicaid agencies to collaborate and better meet the needs and ensure the well-being of children in foster care and those served under the Medicaid program.
Specifically the five-year collaborative demonstration, involving the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), is designed to encourage states to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children and youth in foster care and to reduce the inappropriate use and over-prescription of psychotropic medications.
We are looking to build broad grassroots support for this proposal, to encourage Congress to expand on their efforts to address the health and behavioral health care needs of children and families involved with child welfare and take action to fund this initiative. Please sign-on by Monday, March 16.
This same letter will also be sent to House leadership and other Committees of jurisdiction (including Finance, Ways and Means, etc.). If you have questions please contact Shadi Houshyar.
